What is an ATS score for a resume?
An ATS score is a measure of how well an applicant tracking system can read your resume and how closely it matches a job. Each ATS and each employer works it out differently, so there is no single official ATS score.
An applicant tracking system (ATS) is software that employers and job portals use to collect applications, pull out details such as your name, education and skills, and let recruiters search and sort candidates. If the software misreads your resume, a recruiter may never see the details that matter.

How does an ATS scanner or ATS-friendly resume checker work?
An ATS resume checker, sometimes called an ATS scanner, reads your resume the way tracking software does, as plain text, and flags what could go wrong. This one runs seven checks in your browser and marks each one pass, warn or fix.
- It reads the text of your PDF or Word file, or what you paste. Nothing is uploaded.
- It looks for what an ATS needs to fill in your profile: contact details, standard headings and dates.
- It flags layouts that software often misreads, such as tables, text boxes and columns.
- If you paste a job description, it lists the job's keywords that your resume doesn't have yet.

Is the Naukri ATS score the same as this check?
No. No outside tool, this one included, can show the score a particular portal or employer's ATS gives you, because each one uses its own system and settings.
What carries across all of them are the basics this page checks: readable text, standard headings, contact details, clear dates and the job's keywords. A resume that gets these right is easier for any ATS to read, on Naukri or anywhere else.
How do you make your resume ATS-friendly?
Keep it simple enough for software to read: one column, standard headings, plain text and the job's own words. Most fixes take a few minutes.
- Use one column. Move anything in a table, text box or sidebar into plain lines.
- Name sections plainly: Education, Skills, Projects, Experience. See the resume format guide and the resume format for freshers.
- Put your email and phone number in the body, not in the page header. More in personal details in a resume.
- Write every date the same way, with a four-digit year, like Jun 2024 – Aug 2024.
- Start each project and internship bullet with a verb. Examples in project in resume.
- Use the job's words where they're true for you, especially in your skills section.
- Save it as a .docx or a text-based PDF, never a scan or a photo.

Is this an AI resume checker or a resume analyzer?
Neither: it is a set of simple, rule-based checks that run in your browser, with no AI and nothing uploaded. It reads your resume as plain text and flags what tracking software may misread.

What makes the best free ATS resume score checker?

Can a resume checker replace a resume review?
No checker replaces a resume review. Software can flag layout, headings, dates and keywords, but a person also judges whether your projects and results make the case for the job. After you fix what this page flags, ask a senior, a teacher or your placement cell to read it.

Yes to both. A fresher CV in India is the same document as a resume, and PDF, Word (.docx) and .txt files open directly, on your device. If no text can be read from a PDF, it's a scanned image or a photo, and an ATS may not read it either.
